President of world's leading interactive whiteboard company to address seminar for Chinese educators
Nancy Knowlton showcases latest trends in education technology to Hong Kong
Calgary, AB --- December 9, 2004 --- SMART Technologies Inc. and i-Control Ltd., SMART's distributor in Hong Kong, announce that Nancy Knowlton, SMART's president and co-CEO, will address a seminar for educators entitled "Enhancement of Teaching and Learning Environments by Using Interactive Whiteboards." Through her presentation, Nancy Knowlton, a former educator and member of the Alberta's Commission on Learning, will highlight the effectiveness of using technology products in the classroom, and review research results and case studies from the UK and the United States. She will also provide guidance on using interactive whiteboards to improve student outcomes and discuss ways of assessing and using the vast array of online resources available for teachers. The presentation will draw upon SMART's extensive experience in implementing interactive whiteboards around the world and its work over the past eight years with research in the use of interactive whiteboards in education. Other speakers at the seminar include Yau Yat Heem Paul, principal of HKCCCU Logos Academy, and Chung Wai Tung, a teacher and IT coordinator at Pui Ching Middle School.
The seminar will be held at Pui Ching Middle School in Kowloon on December 11, 2004, and is expected to attract more than 150 principals and teachers from primary, secondary and special education schools across Hong Kong. All participants will earn continuing professional development credits recognized by the Education and Manpower Bureau, the agency responsible for the formulation of policies and the introduction of legislation to ensure that quality education is being provided for Hong Kong's youth.

About the speakers
Nancy Knowlton: Nancy Knowlton is the co-founder, co-CEO and president of SMART Technologies Inc. She has a Diploma of Collegial Studies and a Business Administration Degree (Honors) from Bishop's University. She obtained a Masters in Business Administration in marketing and finance from Saint Mary's University and has also completed her chartered accountant accreditation. Recognized as one of Canada's top businesswomen, Nancy was the 1999 Canadian Woman Entrepreneur of the Year in the Export category, awarded by the Joseph L. Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto and the Bank of Montreal. In 2003 she was awarded an honorary Doctorate Degree of Commerce from Saint Mary's University in recognition of her many business achievements. Nancy is a member of the board of directors for SMART Technologies Inc. and the executive director of the SMARTer Kids Foundation of Canada.
Yau Yat Heem Paul: Yau Yat Heem Paul is the principal of HKCCCU Logos Academy, a direct subsidy school in the through-train model, which combines primary and secondary education. He received his Bachelor of Arts (Honors) and Post-Graduate Diploma of Education from the Chinese University of Hong Kong and his Masters in Education from the University of Hong Kong. He has worked as a school inspector in the former Education Department, has been the principal of a secondary school in Hong Kong from 1988 to 2001, and a part-time lecturer at several universities and theological seminars. Being a well-known front-line educator, he was awarded the Medal of Honor by the HKSAR Government in 1999. He also serves the Hong Kong Education and Manpower Bureau as chairman, curriculum development council.
Chung Wai Tung: Chung Wai Tung is a teacher and IT coordinator at Pui Ching Middle School. He received his Certificate of Education in Computer Studies, a Bachelor of Computer Science and a Masters in Philosophy in Computer Science from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He has professional training and experience in the IT Ed Program and is qualified for the Cisco Certified Academy Instructor (Regional Academy) as well as being a Microsoft Certified Professional in Training and Certification. He is also the honorary professional consultant in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction, and part-time course coordinator/lecturer in the Advanced Post-Graduate Diploma in Education in the School of Education at the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
